Ears that stick out are easily fixed, as are excessively large Earlobes, because overly prominent ears are something one is born with, we try to correct the problem in children just before they begin schooling. when they are sure to be taunted for their looks. By age eight, ears reach 80 percent of their adult growth. Many adults with cosmetic ear problems who come to see doctor didn't have access to corrective surgery when they were young, but those years of feeling self-conscious needn't continue. ear surgery can easily rectify the problem at any age. insurance may even cover the procedure, because the condition, if extreme, is considered a deformity.

What the Surgery Involves

Otoplasty is a quick operation done under twilight sedation and local anesthesia. three to four inch incisions are make behind the ear, and ear cartilage is cut and repositioned closer to the head with stitches (cartilage has "momory" and will want to return to its previous position unless it is sutured). Excess skin may be removed, and the incisions stiched back up. The procedure lasts about an hour and a half (forty five minutes per ear)

Recovery

All the people who wants to do Ear Surgery (optoplasty) are required to wear a headband for a week after surgery and for up to sex weeks at night, to make sure the cartilage re-adheres correctly. The post-op feeling is generally not painful, just uncomfortable, and any of your doctor will typically administer anti-inflammatory medication and a painkiller for the swelling and potential discomfort. Vigorous exercise is forbidden for two weeks so that healing isn't interrupted and to minimize the chance of hematoma. talking on the phone (unless you use a speaker phone) should be avoided for at least three days. If, over time, the ears don't hold their new position exactly, another surgery- equally quick and easy can rectify this situation.
