How sex Change Surgery Gone Wrong in India? & Why?

Want to know about some fact about SRS?

Castration is illegal in India, and Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) is legally ambiguous. Therefore, those who wish to undergo a sex change surgery operation (SRS) have to go to private clinics, and sometimes suffer physical and mental trauma because the process is often incomplete especially in India. The cost of the operation is very high there (around 45 lakhs Indian Rupees). As an alternative, the Hirja Community (one of the Indian Community in India) has devised 'nirvana', a process of castration done in the traditional way.

The physical completion of one's sexual identity is one of the most critical aspects of a transgender's experience. Christy Raj, our Community Correspondent in Bangalore, is intimately acquainted with the sufferings and difficulties attached to normal Sex reassignment surgery (SRS) procedures which led to complications. Numerous friends of his have been through it, and he himself hopes to be able to undergo the surgery one day, albeit under better circumstances. The transgender community for sex change reassignment is still discriminated against massively in India, and there is total ignorance amongst the public of their needs.

Legalisation of sex change surgery (SRS) would provide this surgery and its accompanying counseling at subsidized rates for the working class community. A proper sex reassignment SRS not only consists of a surgical operation. It also includes counseling, before and after the operation, hormonal treatment to enhance the physical changes, and a medical follow-up, to prevent the risks attached to the surgical intervention. But when the intervention is carried out in private clinics, transgender patients hardly receive any of these, and are left vulnerable to various infections, medical complications, and post-intervention psychological distress. To improve his community's situation, Christy Raj is engaged in Sangama, an NGO that provides support for the counseling process. He also belongs to an activist network that lobbies the government to subsidized the surgery, as is the case in Tamil Nadu. He has numerous friends who have undergone sex change surgery (SRS) and now lead happy lives, ultimately at peace with their gender identity. He hopes that his video will help improve the situation of the transgender community, and eventually grant them the right to fully choose their sexual identity.

Here is one of the patient's Story about Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS) and some difficulties about the situations
Story-1

My name is Prapha, 26 years old. I am female to male transgender. i have done the Sex Reassignent surgery (SRS). In india SRS surgery is not legal. and this poses a big problems for the community. i just would like to explain how i did SRS in spite of its illegal in the country. i have had alot of health problems after the SRS surgery because it wasn't perform properly. its not just about surgery but counseling is also necessary before and after SRS surgery. my first underwent castration in 2003-04. i did my vaginal surgery in Bangalore it was an unsuccessful process and i fail to get proper medicare afterwards. i couldn't go back to ask what had gone wrong, and i couldn't even file a case because its against the law. the entire procedure ended up costing me about 2 to 3 lakh (about US $7000) this included vaginal surgery, breast enhancement harmonal injections etc. i was generally confused about the SRS process. because it was not legal. i had to get it done privately and spend a lot of money. at the end, i want our government to legalise sex reassignment SRS and provide free surgeries for the transgender community.

    2. I do agree that god made us the way we are for a reason, but he gave us free will and alowed us to discover and make the technology to do these operations. I'm not someone that would ever do this and I do think in my personal opinion it's wrong and disturbing, but it's there disition and there's alone because god allowed them to. Not that god likes it but he still allows them because he loves them.

I am a young 20yo male and I have thought a bout this for a long time about 6 years and I would like very much to have srs. I've never felt right as I am I have not ever. as I age and am coming in to a position of where I am now able to start down this path I am so happy, then I run in to haters like you.

  3. Perhaps, dear anon, "God" wants us to be happy. If surgery is the way to that, then Why would he care. Besides, Homosexuality is a sin, right, so in one way or another, a transgendered person becomes homosexual, or was at one point. That's a sin and we're all going to hell, right? So why does it matter? Why do you care? Every person is beautiful and wonderful in their own way. Perhaps allowing them to bloom into themselves will only make them better. And besides, Everyone changes. Some changes are just more drastic than others. "God" teaches love, anon. How can you be angry and hate this change when your god told you to love everyone?

  7. God here, just want to clarify I am real and I believe transgenders are beautiful, caring, great people. Seems to me the only time there is ever a problem is when some narrow mind person can't find their own happiness.

  8. I think all people should have the freedom to choose for a sex change if they wish. I don't agree with it but it's their body. But the idea that it should be provided by the government free of charge to whoever wants it just seems ridiculous.

    1. it's never provided to whoever wants it. there is psychological counseling and a lot of tests so they can be sure it's not just a phase.

  9. i knew this one person who had a very low opinion of everyone who didn't fit his criteria, but transgenders were his main target of criticism and hate.

one day he found out he needed a penectomy (due to cancer)

i think now he knows what its like to want something he cant have and function like the gender he cant be.

i am pro minding my own business. we should all do that and no throw stones.

(Matthew 7:1) "Do not judge, or you too will be judged."

and by the way, to all the haters out there wasting precious time, posting petty little notes makes yo seem like you have yet to come out of the closet. just saying.

and this is coming from a true heterosexual.

  10. "God aint real dingusos, these people are just sick freaks that should burn" "MAYBE THE SURGERY WENT WRONG BECAUSE IT SHOULDNT HAVE BEEN DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE,,,GOD MADE YOU THE WAY HE WANTED TO, YOU CANT GO AGAINST GOD AND EXPECT TO WIN" Comments like these, are obviously from people who lack the slightest ability to think outside of the box of life that the government and society has put us in. YOU people are the reason it's "wrong". It's not wrong to be who and what you want. It's likely you will never meet either of these people in your whole existence, so why should it matter wth you think. It's suffering enough having to live your whole life in a confused mind frame, let alone live under or around people who constantly mock you, degrade you, and hurt you for it. Just because they don't wanna be like you, doesn't mean it's wrong. I'm sure you two are more fucked up in the head than the average trans. At least in the long run they know what they want their bodies to be. You two on the other hand obviously do not. For that you spend your time trying to judge people. You my friends are more likely to burn in hell for your criticism, and discrimination, rather than somebody who just wants to live their live's according to their comfort zones. That's how you live your live's right? Onto your own accord, onto your own comfort zone, under your damn bibles, why should it be considered any different?? It's not, so don't fucking bag on people who are just a little different just because your a close minded fuck.

  11. If you were born with enormous ears it's allright to have surgery but if you were born with the wrong sexual organs it's wrong? That's strange...

  13. Sexual reassignment surgery should be legalized, regardless of whether people think it is 'morally wrong', and it should be carried out properly, with the assistance of psychologists, counselors, medical professionals, and the like (like it is in countries where it is legal). This is like the abortion debate... In my opinion, it should be legalized. See what happens when it isn't? Women taking serious health risks, getting fatal infections and dying because they didn't want to carry to term, and either went to a shady abortionist or attempted herself. Not to bang up some people's religious beliefs, but abortion is not new, and neither are transsexuals. Many tribes controlled their pregnancies vigorously, not only through prevention (take the famous lemon peel cervical cap) but through the use of abortive herbs/teas (penny royal and ergot anyone?). But, enough about abortion...

India has a group of transsexual people called Hijras; and they ARE, or were, a part of their society and religion before infiltration of colonialism. These people USED to be castrated in order to become a Hijra.Perhaps it is illegal there now, because Indians are ashamed that Hijras exist in their culture what with pressures to 'Westernize'. Just a hypothesis.

This group of people were spiritually important to the cultural fabric and ceremonies of Indian culture. Transsexual people exist everywhere, and are obviously, therefore, a part of nature, whether or not they are born with male and female organs, or get surgery to become the other gender. That being said, I think the references to how God/nature thinks things ought to be should come to a stop. Alot of the people who want to change their gender were exposed to alot of the sex-hormone associated with the gender they feel they are. This is science--the exploration of natural phenomenon. To satisfy some of the non-Christ-like Christians, how about this: those who say that this conversation is about 'God', remember that your bible says man has free will, and you are not to judge; therefore, transgendered people have free will to chose to alter their body.

  14. Ill get a tattoo... I would never mutilate such a lovely part of the human body male or female. (My own opinion anyway). It gives us that one pleasure of creating life. You can't do that if you tear it apart

  15. I am a Christian and I say if a person wants a sex change operation then let them have it. If they have medical proof that they should have been born the opposite sex, I got not problem if the govt helps them to have the surgery. As fas as God goes, I will let Him be the judge on what people should and should not do. I got nothing but love for people, regardless. God Bless you all.
